With a hacksaw(red), I cut off the two metal struts connected to this axle in the Cheval blanc forest.
Then took out the two relatively small pieces of metal.
The main axle still remains and is still very heavy, but in this condition it may be possible to be dragged (more easily) when the ground freezes up. Maybe on a sled.

Snow melted, so did some cleaning at the nearby park.
Only one bag. There is a lot of garbage IN a tree-bush . Placed there on purpose.
I should take a photo.
In this park, I once found a plastic bag full of those foam peanuts made for packaging fragile items.
Some one had purposely placed it there, waiting for the bag to break open one day to make a huge mess.
Some kind of humor.
Today saw a woman smile at the bus stop after I visually caught her dumping trash on the ground. Did she do this (smile) trick for her parents when she did something wrong?
I have seen those tiny ketchup and mayonnaise (fast food) packs placed on the ground, where people will "accidentally" step on them. One time waiting in line for the bus, the bus arrived and ran over some kind of package or container. The packaging under compression from the bus then squirted a liquid of some kind all over us waiting in line. It was funny? People were mad.

I might get one more day in this weekend, as they predict it will be warm. We will have to see what happens.

One medium bag of garbage collected from the shoreline of Cheval Blanc, and leftovers from the bed I had removed in the summer.

To my surprise , no one had burnt the wood of the bed frame I had left on the shoreline (where I had found it).

The people who have fireplace parties only burn Real wood, not that Fake wood. (sarcastic joke, its all wood)

Some leftovers at the roofing material pile (previous post of Nov 18th) had to cleaned up, and the last of the white desk.

Walked in the first swamp coming from the east side (its dry now) and picked up plastic bottles ( in yellow bag), then found THIS large tire. This is the fourteenth tire I have found in Cheval Blanc Rapid woods if I recall properly.
This tire is not out of the swamp yet. I rolled-moved it to the lower east-west trail.

I had not been to this part of the park in years. On my"assholes and idiots" page I have a photo of a boarded up outhouse (Nov 8, 2008) that got me very angry. I had to use the toilet, and it was unavailable. In three years passing, I've finally forgot/forgave the event.
I discovered lots of garbage from drunks. Lots of beer bottles and crap.

Garbage in the top photograph was collected at point A in the Cheval Blanc woods, then carried and dragged to point B, where the city has a garbage bin.
I'm following the arbitrary rules of garbage pick-up / disposal.

At point "A" in the woods, there is a roof size worth of old roofing tiles. Not rotting. Too much for myself to take out. This large amount of garbage needs a truck to be removed.
Today I took out the garbage that brought attention to the area. This means items that are visual, white or colorful plastic and paint.
The white (in photo of garbage) is from a rotten desk of some sort. White metal runners for a sliding drawer/keyboard.

I found painted wood rotting near by. The wood is biodegrading/returning back to earth, but I presume the paint is LEAD based. So the animals that live and grow in the area will likely have lead poisoning.

This crime will be untraceable to the idiots who dumped the garbage there in the first place.
The polluters children don't have to eat the lead paint , so they are fine.
Makes me think of a bunch of monkeys running a nuclear power-plant.

The city is unaccountable for the pollution on its land.
1) Proof it is poison, costs money for the scientific lab tests.
2) Time in court to prove it legally.
3) Taxpayer has to pay the cost of clean-up (moving it to another location)

The Forrest is eating up the old garbage up well, I have to say. Only invisible pollution will be left. People will be able to walk the area with their dogs, or use the area recreationally.

At Cheval Blanc woods today. I cleaned up two fireplaces. As in removed the garbage and threw the campfire-fireplace stones in random locations.

I picked up a remainder of the carbon batteries at the tree with exposed roots with large cavities near the sandy beach . Cleaned up the camp site near sandy beach area. It still needs one more large garbage bag worth of cleaning.

Picked up several glass beer bottles. The deposit on those glass bottles should go up to a dollar.
I find so many glass beer bottles it isn't funny.
Everyone (going on a drunk) will then buy canned beer, which is good.

Four bags of garbage in total. Oh ya took out the large plastic tarps one orange, one white.

Considering removing he rotting plywood at the swamp as it obviously is un-natural. But then in spring people wont be able to pass by, so haven't decided yet.

The area needs a couple more hours of work of cleaning, besides getting rid of the engine block in the swamp.

No photos. I decided to take out what metal I could out of the swamp.
I loaded up my old backpack and took some by hand.
The bushes and trees tried to grab the metal out of my hands a few times (joking), it got caught in the branches several times while walking the west east trail on the north side of Cheval blanc woods.

I am trying to figure out how to get the engine block out.
I was thinking on an inflatable boat, but the engine is very heavy. It might be un floatable.
Next thought is a Dolly, a thing on wheels, but I know the pathway, the pathway is too uneven for a standard Dolly.
So it looks like a homemade dolly. Maybe over a couple of days. Moving it a certain distance over the days.
If you don't give up the fight you cant lose.

Cheval blanc rapids heavy bag because it was full of wet cloths. Why did someone dump clothing and the black garbage bag? Who knows?
In addition to the clothing I stuffed in a bit of garbage that I found on my walk up and down the riverbank.
On the riverbank , some one had a camp-fire and broke a bottle of alcohol. This was close to the three benchs in the park spot.

At the three benchs ,picked up two coffee cups full of cigarette butts and some garbage, plus collected the small bag of garbage in the photo from the shoreline.
Contemplated that smokers may be slightly psychopathic. They drop the butts where ever they like, as if it is not garbage, + plus second hand smoke was of no consequence to them before the second hand smoke laws came into effect.

Took out some bricks and asphalt out of cheval blanc.
One medium-small bag of garbage (beer bottles) from river shoreline.
Then I found a huge piece of foam , the shape looked like half a small boat. maybe 3 feet by 3 feet looked dirty.
I carried it to the garbage bin on the street. Might get a photo tomorrow.(got photo)
I looked a little like Atlas.

but thought of myself as Sisyphus , having to clean up garbage every day, and the next day to do the same thing. I like the finished product as God-Mother nature intended, so my work is not meaningless.

Roadside garbage. Collected during the walk up from the entrance to the first picnic area on the river-in-the-woods.

Underwear found near the shoreline on top of a bag of garbage.

A few hours work at Cap St Jacq. Found the rusted metal pile at "DrunkRussian" fishing spot and took it to the trash. The trail ended as there was too much water to walk along the shore without getting wet feet-shoes.

In the photo there is a plastic pumpkin with fireworks in it. Is this garbage from this year or last year? hard to tell.
I did half the shore front at the park. Looks like a truck of some kind went up and down the shoreline. I cant tell what it was. One large stone I remember is gone. Someone purposely dumped chopped up tree trunks up and down the shoreline.
Regular garbage of broken bottles etc.
The person dumping food for the animals has gone overboard. There is about 5 piles of rotting food along the shoreline as well.

Cap St Jacq picked up garbage, more than this one bag . Lots of apples on the ground. That shocked me at first. "What are all these apples doing on the ground , going to waste?" was my first thought. I guess they will turn into earth. I did not pick any apples up.
I found a strange metal wire cage for fishing near the collapsed wall (entropy pic) lots of garbage everywhere. A fireplace every 6 feet. Three picnic tables on the beach. With beer and fireplaces. Really nature. NOT. No police for the area I guess. Passed a couple who was very happy, presumably because their dog was having fun in the water, said beu jour-hello to me. Gunshots or firecrackers going off , across the lake/river. Power motorboats still running , so it was still summer. Too noisy for me. No drunkRussians fishing , I guess they are out of season.

I would estimate each bag was at least five pounds worth of weight of broken and intact glass.

On the river shove of whitehorse rapids. One small bag of garbage ( broken glass at the bottom because glass is heavy relative to plastic) plus the wet black cloth-clothing in the photo. I picked up two chairs as well but did not photograph them as I put them in a dumpster. One was the broken-pole-folding with ants, the ants were gone. Someone had the solution of tossing the brokenpolechair back into the river to get rid of it. Brilliant thinking. NOT.
It was right on the shore though, so no problem to pick it up again.
I have to go back for the 2 by 2 foot soft foam because to my surprise it was heavy. Took out a block of asphalt as well.
Almost forgot the broken fishing rod is the second one I have found of late. If you look closely in this photo of the 16th, there is another fishing pole on the left hand side , sticking out of the white plastic bag.
I wonder if its from the same fishman.

Alright! They picked up the asphalt! Today I collected a twenty to twenty five pound bag of garbage from the river shoreline. See the beer bottle on top? Those Corona adverts are really working. I left a large piece of wet clothing and a piece of foam (two by two feet, soft) behind for tomorrow as they were too heavy to carry along with the bag.

Two bags of garbage , mostly from a fishman or fisherperson. The broken chair I pulled out of the river and hundreds of ants started coming out of it, so I was too afraid to carry it to the garbage bin. I will pick it up later.

I brought some of the asphalt to the garbage bin, but they are not taking it.

Brainstorming here of what cleaning work I remember. I will look for photos.
My computer hard drive crashed so I lost a lot of photos I think?

Regular cleaning of bottles and cups and various items are forgotten.

Significant Cleaning Garbage at Whitehorse Rapids Park / Cheval Blanc Rapids .

Starting in June Along the south footpath, that runs east to west, I cut up a metal motorcycle frame (garbage in the park on a manhole cover) and took it , along with 12 old car tires to the east side entrance of the park.
The garbage disappeared, so I assume the city garbage services took it.
Old car battery that ants had taken a liking to. Broken chairs.
Old two person sofa that party-ers had left. I dismantled it/cut it up and took it out.
Found a huge collection of old batteries in a tree hollow on the shoreline ( and removed them) thanks to Geoff. Geoff is another lover of the park who informed me of the batteries. He thought they were road flares.
July I suffered from a bad sunburn.
In August I found low water levels at Cap St Jacques and garbage at the North shoreline.
I removed electrical wires, chains, tires, old wood, partial truck frame, and many buckets of glass and broken glass from the shoreline.

In Bois de lies, I tried to clean up the western corner of the park. Lots of garbage dumped over the years. No police or fines for the dumpers I presume.

Oddities
A little east of Cheval blanc rapids park, there was a very old car rear axle and differential on the shoreline. I took it out to the regular garbage of the residences. PHOTO LINK HERE

Pulled out a broken big screen TV out of a small woods, along with some personal items. I forgot to take a photo of the pile. It was a masterpiece of a garbage pile. I hope it got tongues wagging.PHOTO LINK HERE

Took a car engine out of the river near where I live. I had to move it up a cliff about 10 feet. I did it by hand with no winches. I did it in steps. PHOTO LINK HERE

I was going to put them out in June, but weather and stuff didn`t agree.

I remember having collected 12 tires , but I only found 8. Along with the car battery and the motorbike frame.
P.S. Thanks to the person who took the heavy chrome parks off the bike, so I could move it.

I was picking up garbage on the shoreline, these bits of blue plastic foam.

I then noticed a large fish skeleton. See the red circles of its spinal column.

This looks to me like the photos of dead birds that ate fish in the ocean, the fish had ate plastic bits.

I don`t know for sure if this fish had a bunch of indigestible foam in its stomach, but it looks like it.

In the future, whenever I find a dead fish I will cut it open and photograph it.
This one was long dead, no meat left on it.

I didn`t want to do this third one, but I had to out of fear the bottles would be broken by some asshole and be 100 times worse to clean up. Picking up 50 odd pieces of a broken bottle.

eight by eights ( I think) I didn`t measure them. They look bigger than a 6X6.

Two 8X8 `s pulled out and to the garbage container. I do not know if these 8X8`s have toxic waste in them to preserve them like railway ones. If you have railways wood beams like this know that they have carcinogens in them and you should not use them in a garden to contain soil, as the poison will leach into the soil.
Same goes for that green treated wood. Its full of chemicals to preserve it for the 20 twenty year guarantee.

Cleaning at Cap St Jacques
As the water levels have gone down all the garbage that was once underwater is now visible. Garbage from the monkeys and children who have visited the area.
There is a lot of glass, some garbage. Glass is hard to take pictures of because it is every three feet or so and small, but it adds up quickly when you start picking it up.

If you recall yesterdays photos of foam on the water near the boat launch, there is/was a broken open battery on the shore there. I cleaned up what I could see.
What is inside a lead acid batter, a standard battery, are plates of lead. I picked up these plates of lead. People are concerned about lead poisoning but no one picks up the lead, or broken batteries. "Its the Indians job and I`m a Chief" or something.

Styrofoam floating in the water at Cap St Jacques boat launch spot. I cleaned up a bit but this needs cleaning. Montreal water (river) inspectors-testers (they take water samples) came by and I talked with them. We agreed the park should clean the mess up.

Shielded electrical wire stuck in the ground. I took out several pieces.

Regular wire I took out.

Engine Block

This is the three pipes and round object I pulled out of the river.
Less than five minutes later after taking this photo today a garbage crew came and picked it up.
This gives me some hope for the engine block. With a winch and etc to get it to the road the city may be responsible for the garbage disposal.

Today I pulled an engine block out of the river.
Someone else had started the removal.
I think I saw him on the TV news several years ago ( ten years?).
Single handedly trying to clean up the "back" river. I wonder if I would have joined him in his efforts at that time?

I think I was making rock waterfalls at the time, because I seem to remember how close he was bringing garbage to shore, but not finishing the last few feet, and I was upset that I could have helped or something anyways.

The last few feet out of the river are upwards, twenty feet of a steep slope of random cement block.

I don't know if he did it with scuba tanks or what, but he left a chain on the engine block for it to be handled-manipulated.

I only moved it about 20 feet out of the river, onto the old rusting and rotting sewage outlet from the 1940's. But people will see it now, its no longer hidden. I don't know if this is good or bad. People will hate the view? or people will demand it be removed? Or people will ignore it?

It still needs a winch to pull it up over the cement blocks to the road.

I also pulled out three metal poles and placed them next to the street to be picked up.
Also some kind of large metal hub similar to a wheel rim of a car.

I forgot to take photo's. I will tomorrow.

NATURE is growing everywhere, hiding the garbage that is around and daily deposited by children and the inconsiderate adult.
I think I got a few compliments for cleaning from people I pass, but I really haven't done too much lately. I had hurt my foot and recently got a bad sunburn and was out of it.
When fall comes and the garbage is revealed I will get the opposite of poor job I expect, oh well.

Picking up garbage is like mowing the grass, the grass is always growing and people are always throwing garbage on the ground.
You can't stop the grass anymore than you can stop people from their thoughtlessness.

Cheval Blanc Rapids

I have seen several people take the wrong trail... anyways if you decide to go for a walk TAKE BUG SPRAY or the mosquitoes will feast on you.

There are two parallel trails in the whitehorse rapids park going east-west. One north, one south.
No one is taking the trail on the north side, the one I wrote of in this blog. This trail is next to the water/river.

It is accessed by the far north-west side of the park at 5248 Rue Riviera, Pierrefonds, QC, Canada.
In the photo on the header of this blog, the trail entrance can be imagined near the word "of" (colored blue) in "pollution of Montreal".

The trail on the south side, (that I have seen people on) is "boring" to the average person.
Its purpose could be for exercise, finding peace of mind( if alone) or people walking their dog.

No one is coming to help

I have come to the conclusion no one is coming to help clean up the garbage. (Park whitehorse rapids/ Cheval Blanc Rapids
Garbage I have photographed and put on this website.
A piecemeal job of one piece of garbage at a time that I attempted does not work.
Some unknown person BRINGS THE GARBAGE BACK IN , in the case of a car tire on the south side southern entrance near the cement blocks.

I am going to have to do a big show, of a bunch of garbage all of a sudden to draw attention enough to get it picked up.
I hope I don't get a $300.00 fine pulling the garbage out.
No good deed goes unpunished, so I will have to be careful.

I will take the car battery, bike frame, and numerous tires telephones and whatever else is around to the boundary line myself.

Making bucks, getting exercise, working outside.

I do it without official pay as it is voluntary, but I am paid by my medical social assistance.

Occasionally I find nickels dimes and quarters.

Today, after cleaning God knows how many bush's, I got a one in a million.
I found a twenty dollar bill in a bush while cleaning up the trash.
At first I thought it was a twenty torn in half, but as I examined it later it is an entire twenty! I can treat myself to a luxury in the month of May now.

Stone Soup

A story of generosity working for everyone instead of selfish greediness .
A kindly, old stranger was walking through the land when he came upon a village. As he entered, the villagers moved towards their homes locking doors and windows.

The stranger smiled and asked, why are you all so frightened. I am a simple traveler, looking for a soft place to stay for the night and a warm place for a meal.

“There’s not a bite to eat in the whole province,” he was told. “We are weak and our children are starving. Better keep moving on.”

“Oh, I have everything I need,” he said. “In fact, I was thinking of making some stone soup to share with all of you.” He pulled an iron cauldron from his cloak, filled it with water, and began to build a fire under it.

Then, with great ceremony, he drew an ordinary-looking stone from a silken bag and dropped it into the water.

By now, hearing the rumor of food, most of the villagers had come out of their homes or watched from their windows. As the stranger sniffed the “broth” and licked his lips in anticipation, hunger began to overcome their fear.

“Ahh,” the stranger said to himself rather loudly, “I do like a tasty stone soup. Of course, stone soup with cabbage — that’s hard to beat.”

Soon a villager approached hesitantly, holding a small cabbage he’d retrieved from its hiding place, and added it to the pot.

“Wonderful!!” cried the stranger. “You know, I once had stone soup with cabbage and a bit of salt beef as well, and it was fit for a king.”

The village butcher managed to find some salt beef . . . and so it went, through potatoes, onions, carrots, mushrooms, and so on, until there was indeed a delicious meal for everyone in the village to share.

The villager elder offered the stranger a great deal of money for the magic stone, but he refused to sell it and traveled on the next day.

As he left, the stranger came upon a group of village children standing near the road. He gave the silken bag containing the stone to the youngest child, whispering to a group, “It was not the stone, but the villagers that had performed the magic.”

Moral: By working together, with everyone contributing what they can, a greater good is achieved.

If everyone cares for nature (diligent about their consumption to throwing away garbage ), nature will provide for all.

I witness people hating garbage. I pick up garbage and in public parks, and leave it for later to pick up, and I have seen people kick the bags in anger.

What people don’t realize is the big bag of garbage they see came from tiny bits all over the place. Those tiny bits came from being absentminded.

Anger at garbage and pollution doesn’t do anything productive, we all individually have to grow up and be responsible for what we mindlessly toss away.

Picked up a small used tire in the park, on the trail, and brought it to where the cement blocks entrance is , at the new housing development on the east - south side.
I'm wondering about the other tires. Should I do the work of moving some of them to the entrance?
The motor bike frame is too heavy to move by hand I think, along with the dead car battery.

In my previous photos you may have the impression the place is terrible, it is not.
I have removed all the small garbage items of plastic. I did not take before pictures, but I have run out of those plastic bags from the grocery store that we all keep.

I wonder about the history of the land. In the Google photos of the parks you can see lines. These lines are rock walls. I presume a farmer some time in the past piled the rocks there. Erosion where the land reaches the river, tells me the river level used to be much lower, so I don't think it has been a "wetlands" for long.

A mystery is the City sewer system kind of pipes on the land. When were they put in place?

The train bridge was built in 1882. Île Bigras railway crossing. There is a camera on the bridge. I don't know if the camera is watched.

Third rock wall looking south. It opens to a large . In spring time this is underwater and ducks rest here. It also has something quite bad, but this is supposed to be a good post so I will not name it.

"Hikers in search of natural vistas in the vicinity of Cheval Blanc Rapids bordering Rivière des Prairies will delight in the area's numerous wetlands and superb wooded shorelines."

The city never cleaned the land up and doesn't disclose the sewer system going through the park.
Reportedly the land was bought in 2003 after years of dispute. This 2003 owner built on half of the nature parks land.

By "clean the land up" I mean pick up the heavy trash left behind by previous owners.
There is at least two cars rotting there.
I believe but do not have the money to hire a lab report, that there is oil being released from the junk and trash.
You can see oil slicks on the water in the swamp area. I presume it came from the cars? How much oil is in a car engine?

Besides car, car frame and engines laying about , I know of eight (8) car rubber truck tires located in various parts of the park. (UpdateNov 25,2009: I know of TEN tires now)

These large bags of packaged compost are in the middle of the park. I wonder who put them there, and how they got there? Whoever was doing a cover up, got lazy and didn't remove the wrapper.

Minor garbage of stolen telephone boxs.

Abandoned tree fort. I approve of kids building forts in the woods. All kids should do this. Someone just has clean up when they abandon it, or it falls down. Maybe check it for dangerousness like nails to step on, or sharp wood that could impale someone.

This was recent and intentional, so it really got me angry. Some bastard didn't want to spend $50.00 and the trip to a dump to properly get rid of this garbage. $300.00 fine? That's too low a fine to scare someone. Should be a $5000.00 fine. Has the legal fine of dumping been cost indexed since its inception date (1960's?)?

There is more evidence that living near a 'green space' has health benefits.

Research in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health says the impact is particularly noticeable in reducing rates of mental ill health.

The annual rates of 15 out of 24 major physical diseases were also significantly lower among those living closer to green spaces.
