Bags of garbage

The photos of bags of garbage on this blog do not magically appear. I fill the garbage bag up in 15 min. to an hour and take the bag to be picked up by the city. Most garbage comes from little bits everywhere that add up to one large bag when collected into a group. Photos height and width (March 26, 2024) now match original.

Snow Dump

I saw this the other day. The city removed the yellow cement barriers to this small park.

This is where they moved them to.

Irony : Dumping at a no dump park.
So they started dumping snow in it. It is their property so they have the right to do what they want with it.
I would expect a warning sign to be put up in the spring-summer , warning people not to play there with their children or pets, unless they want to ingest toxic materials from the ground.
I don`t think they will put up a warning sign.
Then if a child or a pet gets poisoned by lead or whatever toxic materials are left over when the snow melts, no one will be able to trace it back to its source. Who is going to pay for the tests to the land (summer grass) to prove the point of origin? Sue the city etcetra?

Lead poisoning stories

 http://www.motherjones.com/environment/2012/12/soil-lead-researcher-howard-mielke

"I had been involved in doing lead work already, and I discovered that her childcare center in the state of Minnesota had interiors that were very well maintained, but they let the children go outside in basically a hazardous waste site because nobody had bothered about the outside.

She was playing in a sandbox and around the sandbox was soil contaminated with lead..."

I had a previous post telling that it was the end of the season, it wasn't. We had a few more good days.
Like the Jerry Seinfeld comedy bit on how to turn over a soda machine or a relationship, it rocks back and forth a few times before it falls over.
It is now winter with everything frozen.

Cleaned the RDP 200 shoreline location. Found a chunk of metal as well. It was good I went this day because previously large pieces of garbage were frozen into the ice making it unsightly. Today it was thawed out so I could retrieve them.

I discovered why the guy living on the right hand side of the park has no Johnson-Rod. He himself is dumping into the river , so I expect he is afraid of calling authorities on the garbage he witnesses people dump, lest he be found to be in trouble as well.

So here is the tip: If you find someone doing something illegal or bad, use that against them for your own benefit. If in calling attention to you, they will call attention to themselves, you know you are safe. Providing they are intelligent enough to know they are guilty of something, so fear calling.

Cleaned up broken glass from the shoreline in Cheval Blanc/ Whitehorse woods, in the area where that orange chair was earlier in the summer. I used a screwdriver as it was frozen on the surface of the ground. I also used an old back pack , that the white bucket fits into, to carry it all the way back to the official green-space park of the city.

The Cap-Saint-Jacques Nature Park Rapids

The Cap-Saint-Jacques Nature Park Rapids looking upstream from a tiny island.

I cleaned along the woods trail.

I cleaned up after the fisher men , fisher boys.

Lots and lots of indestructible plastic fishing-line and broken beer bottles. Also in the top right a chunk of metal bar. I found all kinds of junk here (on the shoreline) and put what I could in the wooden green garbage bin on the left.

December 1, 2012 End of the cleaning season

Today is Saturday Dec 1st, 2012.
This is the end of cleaning season for me for 2012.
Snow covers the ground in most places.

I was thinking of taking out the five old car tires that are ontop of the roofing shingles in whitehorse rapids|cheval blanc rapids woods, but I guess it will have to wait until next year.

I will have to find another form of exercise to stay healthy over the winter.

I might make a single blog post with the significant events of the year.

old tree with old fence wire.

Note: There is a fence wire imbedded in the old tree -1528687.71, 1646805.63 on the east side of the railway where it crosses the river. This rusting fence implies that spot was an original property line of 1879 ( of the north eastern location of lot 94 from the map of 1879).

location of old fence I removed

1924 map.

There was this over 100 year old fence in a part of the whitehorse rapids forest. I circled the fence on the above map of 1924. The train line was built in 1916. I don`t expect they would put up a fence knowing the train was going to go through any time soon. This is how I judge it to be over 100 years old.

I put it in a pile in an open area.

One (pile someone else made) section seemed new, like it was made of stainless steel, so I was thinking this came from the train line fence, but looking at the 1924 map the pile could have come from fencing above the red circle going to the river shoreline.

Aerial map of 1947-49

1879 map that is very inaccurate . It looks like the railway tracks went right through the house (square). No remains exist to my knowledge.
1918 map that is accurate. Source of the metal fence in the tree (top photo) is in this image.

Reflecting: In these images tree's tend to grow on the property lines . The fence I took out (while in place) helped protect the land from tractors and other of mankind's activities. The area is well grown today.  I have not taken the fence out of the land , where would I take it to?, I would not cross the electrified train tracks with a piece of metal. The place where I left it is (was open field) now growing some trees. I believe the fence is protecting the young tree's from foot traffic and the all terrain motor vehicles that run through the area. A fence can be a good thing for plant growth to return.

Cap Saint Jacques maple syrup

In the woods of Cap Saint Jacques where they harvest maple syrup I found this junk.

If you can't see it , it doesn't exist right?

UPDATE: This junk was mostly cleaned up. I brought much it to the trail, and someone at the park took it from there. May 4 , 2013

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The first two photos are of the same (dumped) tire in Cheval Blanc - Whitehorse rapids forest, just west of the pile of roofing tiles ( southern edge, halfway into the forest).
The next two photos are of another (dumped) tire with a metal rim a short distance away.
 There are three more tires for a total of five tires that I just recently found. There is a bit more garbage alongside the trains border fencing that probably should be taken out as well.
I put the two old tires alongside the walking trail. I plan on putting the five on top of the roofing pile.
The last photo is two small bags of garbage collected from the trail and the woods of Cheval Blanc Whitehorse rapids. I put it in the garbage contain at the official park entrance.
I kept one item of garbage, a golf ball that looks to me like its been chewed on by animals that live in the forest(in the photos on bottom of blog page). They think it is a nut of some kind to crack open, but it is a man-made piece of plastic. I hope they didn't damage their teeth.
Cheval Blanc Rapides
I want to do a scientific scale from Google Maps and Bing Maps to conclude the real park space.
In between RDP 180 and RDP 190 there was this large piece of foam from a boat on the shoreline. I brought it to the street to be picked up. I also cleaned up trash from the shoreline totalling a small bag of garbage in the last- bottom photo.
NOTE THE FOAM LOOKS A LOT LIKE LAST YEARS Oct 20, 2011 LINK CLICK HERE
it is the same piece of foam. someone brought it back into the park.
Look at the bump on the top, it is the same indentation. The foam turned yellow over the year.
It is now the season for the fish to go upstream and I took a short video of a fish . I had noticed a large school pass me by going west- fighting the current - going upstream. I also saw a large crane (bird) fly away as I arrived , so I assume the large birds are preying on the migrating fish.
At RDP 190 I cleaned the shoreline. A medium bag of garbage and a piece of rusting metal.
Cleaning up the woods shoreline of Cheval Blanc Whitehorse rapids park. Going from East to West. I collected three bags of garbage. I stopped cleaning when I reached the (western) campfire spot . The fireplace had been rebuilt. I threw the rocks back down into the river. I took the garbage to the city street.
